Is the Moon Worth Mining? (nautil.us)

Since 1969 we have returned a total of 383KG of Moon rock, 382KG of that before 1972. And yet somehow we are going to suddenly turn this into a viable thing in the space of only a few years.

Moon (and asteroid) mining is all well and good provided everything goes to plan. Things rarely go to plan. Two plans that jump out is George W Bush's 2020 Moon base and Trumps 2024 Man on the moon landing. Those didn't even get anywhere close but not for lack of ambition.

I mean I hope to be proven wrong, but there is a lot that needs to go right before I am wrong.
