If anyone is interested in home remedies for better oral health, I'd like to recommend oil pulling.
Not many people do studies on treatments they can't charge for, so "there are no reliable scientific studies supporting the practice of oil pulling for any benefit to oral hygiene or overall wellbeing", according to the American Dental Association. OTOH, they also say it probably isn't harmful.
But when my dentist diagnosed me with periodontitis (because my gum pockets were too deep), and wanted to do scaling and root planing, I decided to try this folk remedy first. And the next time I saw the dentist, he said my gums were healthy.
I didn't do it for quite that long each day, but I did do it pretty much every day until my gums looked healthy. Since then I haven't done it consistently, I just do it when it feels like I should.
