US State Department announced that the final action date EB1 (exceptional ability) category of Green Cards for India has retrogressed by 10 years.
Terms:
`Final-action-date`: The final action dates in the visa bulletin are cutoff dates that determine whether an individual can proceed with their immigrant visa or adjustment of status application. If an individual's priority date is earlier than the final action date for their category, they can move forward with their application.
`EB1`: The EB-1A visa is an employment-based green card available to foreign nationals who demonstrate extraordinary ability in their field, whether the sciences, the arts, education, business, or athletics.
Such a messed up system. Most conversations about immigration reforms omit improvements to legal immigration. Taxation without representation I guess.
The travesty is that very few people know that the wait for India born folks is 120 years! That's not a typo, it's actually more than a lifetime. And those who do, don't care much - these are real people, real families stuck in a limbo, unable to travel every time their applications are in flight, unable to start businesses that would contribute back to the economy.
Hopefully Canada sees a great deal of growth - their immigration intake is merit based, instead of an arbitrary per country cap.
That's the only way that the corporations that benefit from this indentured servant model will lobby to fix it.
