That icon is so nondescript that I am never sure if it is the right one. Older past icons used to be so clear.

I agree, and it moves from the top to the bottom, and the icons which are available change depending on where you click. Clearly the visual style isn't a problem for vel0city, but I consistently need to hover over these to confirm what they are.

You consistently need to hover over the one that looks like a trash can to understand what it does? The one that looks like scissors? Really?

Other than the Share icon they're practically all the same as the ones that have been commonly used in Windows for nearly 30 years.

It's the same basic shape as this paste icon in the Word 97 screenshot this article is talking about. A clipboard and glue stamp.

True, but somehow I am never confident clicking on it. They have managed to make it confusing even with the same shape. Maybe due to the fact that all icons are very similar in colour?

Finding it is like those I Spy books.

Not really. It's closer to the mouse right after a right click now than it used to be. Now it's the first, most immediate choice in the right click menu while on Windows 10 and most other older versions of Windows it's like the 4th option down.

Well I looked hard and didn't see it, and while you're obviously free to like the new style, I think it's terrible and I'm angry they made it so hard to revert.

Like... why is it a mix of icons and dropdowns?? Why do the icons switch between being on the top and bottom?? Why is it low contrast??

To be closer to the mouse, because those are by far the most used tasks.

They started using icons for those tasks used the most so they're closer to the mouse so it's faster to click on. The by far most common tasks in the right click menu are now a single row that's always right next to the mouse when you right click. Instead of being like the fourth or sixth or depending on what else has mucked with your context menu the twelfth item.
