The study of religion is truly unnecessary if you are only going to look at the fanciful bits like people walking on water and turning it to wine, or shooting nukes out of hand bows and then conclude that the said religion is bogus.
The point of a religion is to change the world view of its followers and influence how the followers live with each other and deal with outsiders. The scientific nature of the religion is then just a side effect of the mindset imparted on the followers.
Because these out of place things were almost never created by human but given as gifts by Gods/Aliens/Other dimensional beings. So they now have access to a plane and a limited knowledge on how to operate it, but they can't recreate it or use its tech. to start building cars/trains. Once the given artifact broke down, it simply got lost to dust over next few centuries.
