Weird spike in Svelte downloads around 2022-11-20 (npmtrends.com)

Thanks for figuring it out! This tweet also accounts for the Vue spike mentioned by another poster.

Incidentally this is exactly the time I started my first Svelte project. Sorry about that.

I looked at NPM Trends while checking out Svelte, and this strange spike puzzled me. Nov 13 through Nov 27 shows an anomalous increase in NPM downloads that fell back to baseline afterwards.

There has never been anything like it in the history of the project. They released 3.53.0 and 3.53.1 a few days before the spike, but nothing in the changelog indicates why their downloads would increase by 70x for a month.

Was there a conference that got a lot of people to check it out? Did some org with a huge server farm a/b test a conversion?

React’s trend line is in the link solely for comparison, though it’s interesting that it had a dip during the same period. This submission isn’t the place to debate svelte vs anything else; please save that for more meaningful pro/con submissions. I’ve just never seen a bloop like this on npmtrends and want to know the cause.

Someone messed up their CI.

This was my thought too - a badly written and crashing container in kubernetes with a restart policy as “always”, dev gone home for the night and now a crash loop, nothing to see here

That's not thinking in microservice.

replicas: 64

Now we're thinking in microservice!

And then vue had a spike.

Looks like it has been fixed now.

Wow, didn't know Svelte has been around for 6 years!
