Interesting take that immigrants should be progressives. Why? What is the explanation?

Russian immigrants in the U.S. i know are all conservatives. Their explanation is rather simple and i can't even disagree: "i risked my life to escape from Soviet Union and i won't vote for someone who wants to reform America using it as an example".
