Cadence makes some of the most incomprehensible pieces of niche software I've ever had the pleasure of encountering, so I got a bit of a grim chuckle to see a blog post from them about software complexity.

I use Virtuoso every day and it is an abomination. The amount of time I spend having to deal with their shenanigans is mind blowing.

That’s quite funny. I used it nigh on 20+ years ago on sun boxes with Motif UI. Does it still suck balls after all this time?

I last used it in 2008, but at the time it was still Motif I’m pretty sure. I’m not an IC designer though; I was one of the few people around the company who was happy writing SKILL code to do integration with our product :D.

Edit for people who haven’t used this stuff: SKILL is the scripting language baked into Cadence tools. It’s lispy, but also allows you to move function names out of the parens. So you can (frob) or frob()

That’s EXACTLY the animal I had in mind

Two actual asic engineers, in one thread? That's practically a convention.
