I'm curious: what do mmWave means for WiFi ? How ideally for consumers should we regulate it ? And could we achieve, maybe at the lower end of mmWave, an unlicensed alternative that competes well with LTE, in urban spaces?
Millimetre wave Wi-Fi (60 GHz) does not penetrate walls and in practice needs line of sight and beam-forming antennas. The scenarios it is good for are things like docking stations, or connecting mostly stationary devices within line-of-sight to each other in the same room. Definitely not suitable for anything like LTE scenarios.
