While we like to think of Grammar as a perfect logical structure, in practice, "the brain" (or some higher level structure) processes things in a highly probabilistic fashion. This is how we are able to understand imperfect information (and the mention of the animal "grammar" is on point - a pet can learn and find their way around a house easily)
