Hi, my name is Alec and I build infrastructure and glue systems together. I have completed projects ranging from writing backend application code to building out idempotent infrastructure. I'm looking to branch out into more formal SRE roles as well. If you're worried about the state of your infrastructure, or your developers spend too much time mucking with infrastructure versus feature work, OR if you have no idea what I'm even talking about, then I am certainly going to be a help on your team.

Just want to comment on the star background. I did something similar for my own site (link in bio). I ended up rendering the stars in a three.js scene because drawing them on a 2D canvas did not look like a satisfying effect. CPU usage was lessened as well, at least on my mobile and two desktops (can't verify your site's CPU utilization since I'm on mobile atm). It also fixed the issue where resizing the viewport would mess with the rendering of the stars, like it occurs in your app currently.

nice. i debated using three.js but didn't want the overhead/imports for a simple background. wanted to keep it raw canvas to stay zero-dependency.

you're totally right about the resize jank though. the math definitely breaks when the window dimensions change. on the todo list.

I'm not a web designer by trade. I did recently decide to launch a personal website after dragging my feet for many years:

https://www.potluria.com

I only have one blog post, it's effectively a host for my resume and there's a lot of work to do to make it nicer. For one, while I'm trying to convey an aesthetic with the three.js-powered background, it is _not_ performant on some devices. Choosing a SPA architecture in order to keep the background seamless is also biting me in the butt. From an SEO perspective, for example, I can't implement proper OpenGraph metadata on the blog posts since crawlers don't execute JS.

I'm happy though. I'm excited to make it a long-lived shrine.

Nice work! But cv can be designed better;)

Thanks. Yeah, it isn't ideal. Originally nearly every item fit on one page but the point size was tiny. When I apply for roles, I prune out irrelevant information, which I can do programmatically since I rebuilt the CV; it's rendered with Typst now vs just being a Word doc. However I think I need to do a fundamental overhaul on how everything is organized. Verdict is out on how I should do that :)

While I end up taking paper notes for your exact reason, I have trouble porting such notes regularly into productivity software because of the level of effort required to retranscribe my notes. As a result, paper notes suffice for short term details but once the pile of notes on my desk builds up the information is effectively lost. Something like OP's app would be perfect if handwritten notes could be used as input. Input methods via tablets/wacoms are personally cumbersome for me, so I don't know how else to rapidly preserve paper artifacts.

Hi, my name is Alec and I build infrastructure and glue systems together. I'm currently employed as a senior software engineer at a bank. I have completed projects ranging from writing backend application code to building out idempotent infrastructure. I've worked with Linux-based distributions for over a decade and the past five years I've sunk my teeth into the DevOps space. I'm looking to branch out into more formal SRE roles as well. I've worked in the non-profit space in the past, so if you're a non-profit I'm particularly interested in discussing how I can contribute!
