It was only ever a thing to promote civil war grievances.

Do you download `ls` from anything resembling an "app store"?

like apt? or ftp.example.com?

also: what's download? in embedded sphere, flashing a firmware is often reffered to as download. That's an industry standard term.

They would give OpenAI anything they want if they proclaim the current guy the bestest and biggliest president of all time, ever. (edit: I meant, if chatgpt were to consistently claim that the current guy is the greatest president ever)

So you now have 400Kloc of Rust code? Doing what? How much of that is "new"?

I can't get Augment / Opus 4.5 to edit a few C++ files from within VSCode without going off on a wild goose chase or getting stuck in an infinite loop after I tell that it should be doing this: "oh, you're right, I need to do X", "To do X, I must understand how to do Y", "I see now that to do Y, I should look at at Z". "Let me look at Z", followed by: "oh, you're right, I need to do X"..

To be fair, humans editing C++ also go on wild goose chases. Have you seen the insanity the C++ committee has ratified?

not seeing anyone at all suggesting the work of the c++ committee is going to radicaly alter the efficiency of labour.

My point is that C++ is a tarpit, famous for nerd sniping and leading otherwise intelligent people into Wild goose chases.

Have you read Alexandrescu’s “modern c++”? It’s like a piece of modern art but completely not self aware. There’s just something about C++ that lures intellectuals in; like ice age mammoths to a tar pit.

Small wonder LLMs also fall victims to C++’s deranged ways.

I don’t love c++ but can get things done in it. The tarpit is Haskell ;-)

Which probably means they scan it extra hard.

I assumed it was related to employment as well.

Reminds me a bit of how yahoo got started: categories, sub-categories, etc..

Of course, back then they had thousands of websites to categorize not billions.

That's where advertising comes in..

I think CA has bigger issues to tackle than repealing Prop 65 (IIRC, that's the one about carcinogen warnings). The other, may be happening in some places, but having lived here 20+ years in the Bay, I haven't seen even one example of either.

I saw all of these things driving through Sacramento twice. I think you’re probably just being dishonest or maybe you are in an are in an area where undesirables are priced out and you don’t leave your house.

Crossfire was an interesting car - looked at them for a bit, but needed a 4-door..

If I was in the apple ecosystem (I prefer PCs with Linux, Android), I would pay $100-200 more for a mac mini made in the USA if there were actual benefits, like most of the additional cost went to paying domestic labor, better parts availability, better repairability, etc.
